Celebration of Saint Sava’s Day

This year’s celebration of the Feast of Saint Sava, the first Serbian archbishop, began on the eve of the Feast by a vigil service at the Faculty church of Saint John the Theologian. On the very day of the Feast the Holy Liturgy was celebrated by the Right Reverend Bishop of Bačka Kyr Irinej, Th.D., Dean of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Orthodox Theology. The Holy Liturgy and the Saint Sava Day Academy were attended by His Holiness Kyr Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, Monsignor Stanislav Hočevar, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Belgrade, Mr. Bogoljub Šijaković, Ph.D., State Secretary of the Ministry of Religion and Diaspora, representatives of the University of Belgrade – Mrs. Neda Bokan, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Education, Mr. Aleksandar Jovanović, Ph.D., Dean of the Teacher’s Training Faculty, Mr. Đorđe Vuksanović, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Mr. Miodrag Popović, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, and Mrs. Tanja Jovanović, Ph.D., Vice-Dean of the School of Medicine, as well as other numerous guests, alumni, students and friends of this Faculty. Guests of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology from abroad were Mr. Stanko Gerjolj, Ph.D., Dean, and Mrs. Marjana Harcet, Ph.D, Senior Lecturer, of the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Theology, as well as Mr. Slavko Slišković, Dr.Sc., Vice-Dean, and Mr. Jure Zečević, Dr. Sc., from the University of Zagreb Catholic Theological Faculty.

On the occasion of the Saint Sava Day Academy held at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology amphitheatre after the Holy Liturgy, the Right Reverend Bishop of Bačka Kyr Irinej extended his welcome to all guests presenting them with information concerning the Faculty’s academic life. At present there are 1734 students studying at the Faculty (1605 basic academic studies students, 107 master studies students, and 31 doctoral studies students); in the academic year of 2011/2012 the Faculty enrolled 207 first year students for basic academic studies, 64 for master studies, and 10 for doctoral studies; in 2011 226 students graduated basic academic studies, and 23 graduated master studies.

Academy program continued with this year’s Saint Sava Day sermon delivered by Mr. Bogdan Lubardić, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology. After the sermon diplomas were presented to all who graduated during the previous year, and students with extraordinary academic achievements were presented with special awards. There followed a brief musical program presented by several renown artists after which the Academy was concluded with the singing of the Saint Sava hymn.
