Celebration of the Feast of Saint Sava 2013

This year’s celebration of the Feast of Saint Sava, the first Serbian archbishop, began on the eve of the Feast by a vigil service at the Faculty church of Saint John the Theologian. On the very day of the Feast the celebration of the Holy Liturgy was headed by protopresbyter-staurophoros Vladimir Vukašinović, Th.D., Associate Professor of the Faculty.

Saint Sava Day Academy, held in the grand amphitheatre of the Faculty, was attended by His Holiness Kyr Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, His Excellency Monsignor Orlando Antonini, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Serbia, Monsignor Stanislav Hočevar, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Belgrade, Mrs. Nada Kovačević, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Education at the University of Belgrade, presbyter Darko Djogo, Ph.D., Vice-Rector of the University of East Sarajevo in Republika Srpska, Mr. Mileta Radivojević, Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, as well as other numerous guests, alumni, students and friends of this Faculty. This year’s guests of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology from abroad were Mr. Christian Gostečnik, Ph.D., Dean of the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Theology heading a delegation from this Faculty, and Mr. Tonči Matulić, Dr.Sc., Dean of the University of Zagreb Catholic Theological Faculty, also heading a delegation from his Faculty.

Dean of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, protopresbyter-staurophoros Predrag Puzović, Th.D., extended his welcome to all guests presenting them with information concerning the Faculty’s academic life. At present there are 1756 students studying at the Faculty; in the academic year of 2012/2013 the Faculty enrolled 187 first year students for basic academic studies, 118 for master studies, and 10 for doctoral studies; in 2012 180 students graduated basic academic studies, and 29 graduated master studies.

Saint Sava Academy program continued with this year’s Saint Sava Day sermon delivered by protopresbyter-staurophoros Radomir Popović, Th.D., Full Professor of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology. After the sermon diplomas were presented to all who graduated during the previous year, and students with extraordinary academic achievements were presented with special awards. There followed a brief musical program presented by several renown artists after which the Academy was concluded with the singing of the Saint Sava hymn.
